Where the Stars Shine Bright

One of the benefits of coming to California is that I get to see my Aunt Connie and Uncle Odie. Living 3500 miles away that doesn’t happen very often so my last trip and this one I made sure to at least get to visit for a day.

Not too long ago they moved within about an hour and a half of Yosemite Valley to Sonora California.  After visiting this weekend I must say if I were to ever move to California that is where I would want to live.  It is a lot like Maine just drier of course, but so beautiful.  Another  thing I like about it, is that it is very near the town of Sonora that has all the stores and amenities you would normally see in a city but you are right on the edge of one of the biggest pieces of preserved wilderness in the country.

As you will see in my Facebook album they have deer that come to eat the apples from the tree on their front lawn. Like clockwork they show up twice a day to make their rounds about the neighborhood eating whatever they can find.  It was really quite a sight to be that close and they didn’t mind us at all.

They also took me on a tour of the area, which actually was their first tour of the area too since they have only lived there about a month and have been busy moving in and all that entails.  We went to Twaine Hart, CA for a little ride to look around.  It reminded me a lot of living in Yosemite.  It is a very small town with one of everything that people need from a barber shop to  a small school.  It is actually smaller than Patten, Me where I grew up.  All of the houses look like camps in Yosemite also.  They are a bit close together but with all the trees around you really don’t notice it that much.  Another part of the ride that made it beautiful was the smell of the forest.  You just can’t get that smell anywhere else.

On my way home I noticed I could see the stars really bright for the first time since coming to California. I can’t wait to see those stars again when I am 1000 ft up the rock with nothing to ruin the view.
